Professional racing driver Uwe Alzen was born with motorsport already in his blood. The beginnings of his motorsport career were, however, anything but simple. Unlike his rivals, who as children were already being guided towards their careers in karting, when Alzen first came into contact with a ‘real’ race car he was already 22. However, in 1992 he won the Porsche Carrera Cup at his first attempt. In 1993 he then began racing in the DTM. As throughout his entire DTM career he had the privilege of driving for Porsche, there followed further championship titles in the Porsche Carrera Cup, Porsche Supercup and the ADAC GT Cup and appearances in the legendary Porsche GTI at Le Mans. After leaving DTM at the end of 2003, victory after victory followed for Alzen in diverse series and championships through until 2009. The second title win in the Porsche Carrera Cup (2007) was just one, with further successes following in the FIA GT series. In the very first year of his comeback as a works driver, he won in 2010 the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring in a BMW M3 GT2. Since 2009 he has been running his own team under the name ‘Uwe Alzen Automotive’. Today, the ‘thoroughbred racer’ is still on the track, successfully driving an Audi R8 GT3 in the STT (Special Touring Cars Trophy).
