In an outstanding season, touring car legend Franz Engstler has again shown everyone what he can do: The driver supported by RECARO won the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) in the TC2 division! Throughout the season, Engstler dominated this championship class, winning almost all races and thus securing the coveted Yokohama Trophy for the best TC2 driver with three weeks left in the season. RECARO also made a contribution: “In the RECARO seats, I just get the best feel for the car. They are ergonomically shaped and padded just right, allowing you to feel the car in the shoulder and pelvic area, which is enormously important for any racing driver,” Engstler says in praise of his racing shells. There is one bit of bad news in regard to this achievement: Engstler will probably not be able to defend his title. In the WTCC race, the vehicle types TC1 and TC2, which differ in terms of performance, went to the starting line together for the last time this season. Due to a rule change, next year only TC1 cars will be permitted. After seven successful years, Engstler will therefore not be able to use his BMW 320 (TC2) in the world championship.
