Whirlwind start: new racing partnership between Porsche and RECARO kicks off with a win on the first joint outing at Le Mans

Porsche and RECARO – two brands with rich traditions – have opened a new chapter in their long-established partnership, with Recaro Automotive Seating racing shells supplied as part of the standard equipment of the new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup race cars – including the cars for the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. The drivers of the Porsche 911 RSR works team in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) will also have the benefit of the proven products from Kirchheim/Teck. In this enterprise, the new 911 RSRs have already produced the first highlight of the partnership with a brilliant one-two for the long-distance works team in their first entry at the 24 hour race in Le Mans (GTE-Pro class) with the RECARO racing shells. The class winners were the team of Romain Dumas (F), Marc Lieb (D) and Richard Lietz (A), followed in second place by the car driven by Jörg Bergmeister (D), Timo Bernhard (D) and Patrick Pilet (F). Both cars of the “Porsche AG Team Manthey” ran like clockwork to the checkered flag, completing 315 laps in the 24 hours of racing. Race driver Timo Bernhard says: “A brilliant success, like the one in Le Mans, is only possible if all the details in the cars fit together perfectly. RECARO’s part in the success therefore also deserves to be recognized, because the new racing shells with the unique and FIA compliant adjustment option are ideal for long distance races. Finally we have a solution that can be tailored to the needs of every driver.” The success of Porsche and RECARO was unfortunately overshadowed by the tragic death of Alan Simonsen, who died in hospital of injuries sustained in an accident in his Aston Martin during the race. The thoughts of all RECARO team members go out to the family and friends of the Danish racing driver at this tragic time.
